Weaverscroft, Hilperton

Weaverscroft is located in a sheltered and secluded site, amongst other more modern houses that have been developed on the surrounding land. It is thought that the building comprises two former weavers cottages that have been combined, and partially rebuilt and extended during the middle of the 20th c. The building is grade II listed due to its doll’s house appearance.

Studio Architects has been asked to replace an existing conservatory with a more successful room which will provide the family with the extra living space that they require.

The property also contains a number of out-buildings which the client wishes to convert to a more useful self-contained studio dwelling.

Studio Architects embraced a modern transparent design, which opens up onto the garden. The roof projects well beyond the glazed screens to reduce summer heat gain and to provide shelter. A thin copper roof has been designed to strengthen the sense of transparency and minimise the roof height. The pre-patinated green colour will give the effect of a large garden canopy.
